We all know that stress comes into our lives, and sometimes we do not have control over stressful life situations. So should we just wait around for it to go away? Obviously NO! Why wait when YOU can do something about it!
Knowing the stress is one thing, while knowing how to cope with it is a different thing. Reading this article will introduce four strategies that can help you mediate your stress. Tip 1. Pay attention.
Have you taken the time to notice and appreciate your surroundings? The air you breathe, the smell of coffee, the bread shop across the street, and the small things that happened in your life day by day. You may not take time to notice these things because they are small and maybe petty things in your daily life but potentially also because your mind is pre-occupied with all the things life throws at us.
Now, let me tell you this. STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING! Go outside, take a break from work; and don't worry, it will be there when you get back! And take breaks to breathe in that fresh air and listen to the bustling streets, even the barking dog, or maybe even take a walk towards that shop across the street and take that glorious sip of coffee your mind and body needs.
Tip 2. Self-Compassion
Chances are, when you treat yourself; you feel guilty. But you have a divine right to take care of yourself and that includes treating yourself. Your mind and wellbeing should be on your top priority list.
When you learn to accept, respect, and be compassionate with yourself, you will see that your daily tasks will be less stressful. And you will notice that your days are filled with more joy and less reactivity to life's situations.
Tip 3. Deep Breathing.
When you feel the world is closing in on you, try to close your eyes, and concentrate on how you breathe. Notice how the air goes in and out of your lungs. Observe this for a moment, then open your eyes. You might say that this sounds so simple but this can such a helpful tool to cope when you feel overwhelmed by a burst of anxiety.
Tip 4. Mindful Judgement
Believe it or not, when you are stressed, you make incoherent and inconsistent decisions, which sprouts additional stress. Always remember, never mistake your stress with your true identity. You are so much greater than any stress you may experience. Use these tips to reconnect with your Higher Self.
A daily meditation practice can also help you keep stress at bay as a preventive tool.
